Ten Years since Kargil…

July 27, 2009 at 10:55 am 4 comments

It’s been ten years since we won the unofficial war against Pakistan but it all seems as if it happened yesterday. I remember watching it all on NDTV News (then Star News). I think the entire Nation was hooked to it, watching the Indian Army fighting it out in those harsh conditions. The ones who protected us did accomplish in their mission because we were safe at our homes.

Who ever is reading this post, just pause for a second and think of all those Officers and Jawans who are not just doing their job but guarding us with their lives. The families of the almost forgotten heroes (only remembered by the Govt, media & everybody else on occasions like these) need a special mention too. While we carry on with our lives, they live with horrors of a war and memories of the ones who are now Martyrs.

Yes, I remember the war. Burkha Dutt was the one reporting live action for Star News (It used to be a damn good news channel in those days).

Names like Captain Vikram Batra, Captain Anuj Nayyar, Lt. Manoj Kumar Pandey, Sanjay Kumar…..etc will be remembered forever. They attained immortality the day they fell. Many acts of Bravery were performed in this war on both sides.
This war is also remembered in my household because my father served in it.

Talking of bravery, we can not forget the Pakistani Army. Though they were our enemies in that battle, but a true brave should know how to appreciate the bravery shown by his enemy.
From the Pakistani Army, one of the bravest soldier was Karnal Sher Khan…http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karnal_Sher_Khan

I remember being absolutely overjoyed (with almost tears in my eyes) reading the TOI headline “Tiger Hill Recaptured”. I had 12th and was absolutely motivated to do well
